Vision Statement
Strong, diverse family units are thriving in a caring community committed to the collaborative development and sharing of resources to improve their quality of life.
What is this Impact Area focused on?
- Supporting families with children to strengthen parenting and life skills
- Increasing literacy among diverse populations
- Promoting options for older adults and caregivers to successfully adjust to changes in later life
- Promoting skills enhancement and independent living for persons with disabilities
Why is this important?
According to the 2011 LIFE Study, a community assessment of the Fox Cities, local families are changing, with more single-parent households. These single income families have higher poverty rates and more challenges in managing the home life. At the same time, the baby boom generation is reaching retirement age and approximately 10,000 people are turning 65 every day for the next 20 years. (Alliance for Aging Research)
