Channeling Change

Contributor: Nanci Micke, Vice President of Marketing and Communications at United Way Fox Cities

What is the best part of working for United Way Fox Cities? I have been here for 13 years, and I have thought about this question a lot. The answer for me is that I work for an organization that I know is making a positive difference every day in the lives of people who live in the Fox Cities. I also know that each decision we make is driven by what will be best for the community.

One of our biggest challenges is making the work of United Way understandable for everyone. It is complicated because it is comprehensive and wide-reaching. At United Way we invest in 100 community programs, develop initiatives that address our most pressing needs, provide grants, and deliver programs like United Way 2-1-1 and Youth Board. We do research with local experts on our emerging needs. We are a partner in doing the LIFE Study every five years because we have seen the benefit of having a robust community needs assessment in making informed decisions. It is not easy to put all of that in an elevator speech.

If you would like to know more about United Way we would love to have you join us for our Channeling Change session that is part of our LIVE UNITED Experience. It is an opportunity to hear how United Way is changing and going upstream in our efforts to change community conditions. We will have a "hands on" activity that gets everyone involved. And we want to know what you want to know - so come and ask us!

Sign up to attend the United Way Experience Tour on Wednesday, October 22 from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. at United Way Fox Cities (1455 Midway Road, Menasha).
