We've made it through the holiday season! Although I did breathe
a sigh of relief when I settled back into my regular routine, I
already miss the holidays. Before you disagree with me, let me
explain…The holidays are a time of the year when I get to spend
some extra time with people I love. Also, there are so many
opportunities during the holidays to give back to the community, it
makes it easy. Both of these are things that I have to work harder
to find the rest of the year.
I'm guessing, now that you've heard me out, you agree and miss the same things about the holiday season. Well, I have some good news for you; this year, you don't have to look any further! We're excited to invite you to join us in a community volunteer event to help promote reading and healthy eating for local families. United Way Fox Cities was selected to be one of 10 United Ways to partner with Kimberly-Clark's Depend® brand in a national initiative to "promote healthy, active, and independent living throughout an individual's life" with a focus on volunteering. This is a great chance to spend time with family and friends, and strengthen our community through volunteering!
Promote Reading and Literacy: 50 volunteers are needed to help pack over 700 literacy kits on Friday, January 23 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the UW Fox Valley Emeritus Room (1478 Midway Road, Menasha). Volunteers will place labels in books and pack books, crayons and other items in bags. Free parking is available in the student parking lot (parking permits will be provided).
Promote Healthy Eating: 24 volunteers are needed to help pack 500 healthy meal kits on Friday, February 6 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at United Way Fox Cities (1455 Midway Road, Menasha). Volunteers will measure dry ingredients and pack ingredients inside of bags. Free parking is available in the United Way Fox Cities parking lot.
Light refreshments will be provided to volunteers. Facilities are handicap accessible. Families and groups are welcome to volunteer. Children age 12 or under must be accompanied by an adult. To sign up, email Deb Schmidt or call 920-735-5468.
The assembled kits will be distributed to families at the United Way Emerging Leaders' Valentine Family Festival and through local nonprofits.
