Survey Volunteers

Contributor: Joe Mauthe, Executive Director at the Housing Partnership of the Fox Cities

Our local United Way 2-1-1 call center answers an average of 35 calls per day from its 10-county service area in Northeastern Wisconsin. Among the calls, there is one issue that stands out most; 42% of calls include questions about finding housing and shelter. A number like that begs the question, why is this issue an ongoing prevalent concern in our community? To help answer that question, Fox Cities housing organizations will be conducting a research project - and you're invited to help!

Over 100 volunteers are needed to help with Project RUSH (Research to Understand and Solve Homelessness). Throughout April, volunteers will be asked to conduct 500 face-to-face interviews aimed at better understanding the current need of affordable housing in the Fox Cities. To make this happen, two things are needed:

  1. 100 Volunteers are needed to administer a 25-minute survey. All volunteers are required to attend a 2-hour training on either March 23rd from 6 to 8 p.m. at SECURA Insurance (2401 S. Memorial Drive, Appleton) or March 24th from 9 to 11 a.m. at Riverview Gardens Community Center (1101 S. Oneida Street, Appleton). Register to attend a training event.

After completing the training, volunteers can sign up for interview shifts. Interviews will start on Monday, March 30th and run through Friday, April 24th. Shifts are two hours in duration at various locations throughout the Fox Cities.
  2. 500 Survey participants who have struggled with housing at some point in their lives and are willing to share information.

If you are interested in volunteering, please visit the Volunteer Center of East Central Wisconsin's website to sign up, or contact the Volunteer Center by email or phone at 920-832-9360 or 920-230-3663.

Project RUSH is a great opportunity to get involved and be a part of a broad-based community solution to the pressing issue of poverty and homelessness; we hope you consider volunteering.
