Anna Quindlen, author and columnist, says in her book, A Short Guide to a Happy Life, that, "Knowledge of our own mortality is the greatest gift God ever gives us." Life is short. We waste too much time, take too many things for granted, get our priorities out of order. It's so easy to exist rather than to live.

As we wonder how we can get one child to soccer practice, another to basketball, oh and there's a piano lesson in there somewhere, let's stop, catch our breath, and be thankful for everything we have. Take time to kick the ball with your child's team or think about taking piano lessons yourself.

Let's try to use our precious time to make our home, our neighborhood, our community a better place. To paraphrase Ms. Quindlen, learn to love the journey, not the destination. Remember that life is not a dress rehearsal and that today is the only guarantee we get.
