100,000+ diapers donated by Kimberly-Clark and Huggies Diapers.
Contributor: Nanci Micke, Vice President of Marketing and Communications at United Way Fox Cities
Have you ever seen 100,000 diapers in one place? I had that opportunity last week thanks to a donation from Kimberly-Clark Corporation and Huggies Diapers to the Fox Cities Diaper Bank, which is an initiative of our United Way. This is Diaper Need Awareness Week, and an impressive donation like this one will be making a big difference in the lives of struggling families. Each year we distribute between 300,000-400,000 diapers in the Fox Cities so this donation represents almost a third of the annual inventory for the Fox Cities Diaper Bank.
In addition to recognizing Diaper Needs Awareness Week, The Post-Crescent's Dollars for Diapers Campaign is in full swing. The goal is to raise $40,000 in the Fox Cities for the Diaper Bank. We have great partners joining us with matching donations up to $5,000. We thank Thrivent Financial, Kimberly-Clark, and the following members of the Fox Cities Chapter of Credit Unions: Fox Communities, Badger Globe, Capital, Unison, St. Elizabeth Employees, Prospera, and Thrivent for their generosity.
The reason we are committed to providing diapers really hits home when we hear from families who have benefited from the Diaper Bank. I would like to share Sara’s story: “I am a working, single mother in the Appleton area. I have two children in diapers, a six-year-old child with special needs and a baby. Before receiving diapers from the Fox Cities Diaper Bank, I did not have enough diapers to change them often enough to prevent diaper rash. A change in my income disqualified me from receiving food stamps, which do not cover diapers, but had helped with the grocery bill and overall budgeting. The diapers we receive have helped me to pay for other essential items such as rent, food, car repairs, and the many costs for my child with special needs. The increased supply of diapers have made my children happier and healthier.”
On behalf of Sara, and all of the families who receive diapers, thank you.
