Nonprofit Board Training 2017

Contributor: Nanci Micke, Vice President of Marketing and Communications at United Way Fox Cities

Have you toyed with the idea of joining a nonprofit board of directors, but the thought of trying to wade through financial spreadsheets just sounds too complicated? As a volunteer you may love the mission of the nonprofit and be committed to helping the organization do great work in the community, but not feel comfortable that you have the skills to strengthen the business model. You are not alone.

On October 4, Steve Zimmerman, Principal of Spectrum Nonprofit Services, will be in the Fox Cities to present a workshop on pursuing nonprofit sustainability. Register for the workshop. Here are some quotes from people in the Fox Cities who have been to Steve's training before:

  • "The promised spreadsheet with multiple, interconnected tabs will be very helpful. The case study was illustrative. I love the Matrix Map!"
  • "My greatest challenge in coming up with my favorite take-away or my next steps is picking what to do first. The case study and sample financials are incredibly helpful."

This interactive training introduces the matrix map, a visual tool you can use to guide decisions in the organization. The matrix map allows board and staff to understand their organization by integrating mission impact and financial viability in a way that enables them to frame choices and make the adjustments and investments necessary to strengthen the business model. Attendees will learn the key concepts and then leave with a tool that can be used immediately to engage staff and board in the pursuit of nonprofit sustainability.
This workshop is co-sponsored by the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, Schenck, the Nonprofit Leadership Initiative, and United Way Fox Cities. With the support coming from the four sponsoring organizations, the workshop cost is only $35.00 per person, and includes all the handouts, continental breakfast, and a buffet lunch. If you want to get the most out of the workshop it is encouraged that you come with as many staff and board members as possible.

When: October 4, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Registration and continental breakfast will begin at 8:00 a.m.
