Every effort needs a leader. United Way’s hands-on leader within supporting companies is called the Employee Campaign Manager (ECM). ECMs garner employee enthusiasm, partner with United Way staff to educate their team, and celebrate company success.
Their leadership fuels the fund-raising engine needed to support programs that touch one in every three people in the Fox Cities. Ellen Biesterveld, Executive Assistant to the Regional President Mike Nickels at U.S. Bank, shares her experience with United Way Fox Cities as both an ECM and United Way Fox Cities Emerging Leader:
I first got involved with United Way Fox Cities as an Employee Campaign Manager (ECM) when I took a new position within U.S. Bank. In my role as an ECM, I help run our United Way Fox Cities campaign with a really great committee of people.
I love being able to run the campaign and get creative in the way we educate our employees about how impactful United Way Fox Cities is. We always approach the campaign with a very positive mindset and keep that momentum going. When I look at our percentage of givers throughout the campaign, it never ceases to amaze me how generous my workplace is. Being involved with United Way Fox Cities shows the community that we are an organization made up of compassionate and caring employees.
Soon after becoming an ECM, I joined Emerging Leaders, and now volunteer on the Emerging Leaders Steering Committee. I am personally involved because I understand there are so many incredible programs to help people through United Way Fox Cities. I had my daughter at a young age, and I’m lucky to have had amazing family to support me. Not everyone has that, so for me, donating to United Way Fox Cities is my way of giving back to all the young parents out there who need a little extra help, whether they need support from the diaper bank, early childhood literacy programs, a ride to work, or shelter from homelessness.
I am proud to say I work for U.S. Bank, proud to call the Fox Cities my home, and proud to be a part of making our community stronger through United Way Fox Cities!
