"A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats"

"A rising tide lifts all boats" is a quote that has stuck with me this past year as I had the professional and personal honor of sitting at the table with leadership from Best Friends of Neenah Menasha (BFNM) and my own organization, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Fox Valley Region (BBBS), to discuss a potential merger into one youth mentoring organization.

Effective Jan. 1, 2020, our two organizations will merge to become, Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Wisconsin. We will be focused on empowering mentoring relationships for youth throughout Calumet, Outagamie, Waupaca, and Winnebago counties. All existing communities of service will continue to benefit from innovative programs, dedicated volunteers, and remarkable youth.

We began the process of exploring a merger for the future of our youth and our communities. Both of our organizations have a history of strong, community investment and are supported by staff who, along with our volunteers, are making a real impact in the community. Yet the need for mentoring continues to grow at a fast pace that challenges our resources. By combining volunteer and financial resources, we will be an even stronger youth mentoring organization that can ignite life-changing friendships for youth in our area.

Currently, our two organizations support a combined 500 youth in need each year. The need continues to grow, however, as we collectively have more than 150 kids on our waiting list. This merger will strengthen our ability to meet the needs of youth in our communities, especially the kids on our waiting lists. We remain committed to making a positive difference in the lives of all children and youth.
